Simone added that the clothes she had previously dismissed as “unacceptable” had actually served to “make me feel beautiful.”

Many of the women who have shared their own #WeWearWhatWeWant selfies have thanked Simone for starting up the empowering hashtag.

"Last night I gained the ladyballs to wear a top like this in public. Empowering," one shared.

Another said: “I’m really insecure and rarely post body pics, but this hashtag has really got me loving myself.”

And one woman decided to use the hashtag as a means of schooling people on what being curvier doesn’t mean.

“Plus size doesn't mean ugly,” she said. “Plus size doesn't mean unhealthy. Plus size doesn't mean I'm lazy. Plus size doesn't mean I only eat junk food.

“Plus size doesn't mean my life means less than anyone else."
