Want to feel like you’re embracing spring despite being cooped up indoors? Here are the mood-lifting outfits to wear for every isolation scenario…
Hands up who’s reached peak isolation?
Just a couple of weeks into social distancing and wearing makeup has become an abstract concept, we’ve basically completed Netflix, and we’re so well-acquainted with our favourite pair of tracksuit bottoms we might as well give them a pet name.
High on our miss-it-list is just generally being outdoors among nature whenever we liked, before we were limited to one walk a day.
While everyone should definitely be staying inside, the timing is hardly ideal considering spring has finally made an appearance and the first season of bank holidays is just around the corner.
But enough of the negatives, we plan to cut through the doom and gloom via our wardrobes.
Think florals, water motifs and mood-lifting nature prints - a welcome nod to the great outdoors, and dressing in them is a surefire way to feel that little bit more spring-like when you’re really only venturing out for essentials.
1. Formal florals
Our social calendars may be limited to digital catch-ups but that doesn’t mean we’re not taking advantage of occasions as a reason to dress up.
Have we ever dressed up for Easter Sunday/Monday? Not unless our Nan was coming over. But this year we’re embracing the Easter bank holiday (and the May one, and any others for that matter) as an event to impress.
Settle down for a family-wide Zoom call wearing this stunning wrap dress from Reserved’s new Re.Design collection. The mid-length and ruffle sleeves make it family appropriate, while the gorgeous floral print ensures it feels like spring on the screen.
Just be sure to ‘conveniently’ go and fetch more wine, keeping your dress in shot as you leave the room – the bow detail on the back is not to be missed.
Team with these cream leather sandals, matching handbag belt and top off with a cute shell hairpin for a look you’ll definitely be reusing when this is over.
2. Statutory stroll attire
If we’re only going out once a day for a walk, we may as well maximising the feeling-good vibes.
Head out for a leisurely stroll wearing this uber cool crochet sweater vest and pair with some airy, paper bag-style trousers that won’t compromise on comfort - with the addition of the neutral palette giving you a sense of lightness.
Throw over this lightweight iridescent coat to give your ensemble a trend-lead edge. After all, you have no idea who you could bump into on your walk – from a safe two metre distance, of course.
Finally, chuck this deep satchel over your shoulder in case you need to make an opportunistic loo roll purchase on your way home.
3. Date night in
In case you hadn’t heard, indoor date nights are, well, your only option now. But they do offer an excuse to get dressed up with your other half and take advantage of the fact you’re isolating from the rest of the world.
It would be romantic if it wasn’t necessary, right?
Whether you’re turning your kitchen into a faux Michelin-star restaurant or settling down for a FaceTime first date, this coral pink tiered dress makes for the perfect mood-lifting statement. Plus it’s 80% Lyocell (which is made from mostly wood and is sustainable), which means you really can bring a sense of the outdoors in.
Pair your dress with lilac leather sandals, decorate with a chic hair clip, and finish off the ensemble with this perfectly cheerful (and very Shrimps-esque) handbag for a look that is going to score high on all fronts.
4. Back garden boujeeness
If you’re lucky enough to have a back garden during times like this, you’ll likely want to spend your time soaking up whatever sunshine is on offer – and we don’t blame you.
To do it, we suggest going with this 100% cotton (cool, comfy and spring in a material) milkmaid-style midi dress.
Pair with a vinyl bucket hat and jelly shoe sandals for a look that will have you feeling part Jane Austen heroine, part modern day VSCO-girl as you tend to your daffodils.
To finish off, just wrap this black leather handbag belt round your waist to carry your essentials (i.e. suncream, phone, hand sanitiser).
