Would you wear a divorce ring?

Published

How do you mark the end of a marriage? Put a ring on it.

From Katy Perry and Russell Brand to Heidi Klum and Seal, it's been a bumper year already for celebrity divorces. But would any of these heartbroken couples wear a ring to mark the end of their marriages?

French jewellery designer Gisele Ganne is hoping so - with her line of Divorce Rings. Inspired by the fact that 42% of the marriages finish by divorce in UK (and 38% in France), Gisele (whose designs have been seen on Lady Gaga and Daisy Lowe) decided to create a line of divorce jewellery that "shows the inevitability of the breakup, but also shows that from these ashes may rise a new life". All of Gisele's pieces feature 'subverted' wedding symbols, so the rings (which costs £850) feature gold bird skulls decorated with the bride's bouquet, and clutching gems in their beaks. There's even a Divorce Knuckle Duster!

Although this is the first high fashion Divorce ring we've seen, apparently other, glitzier versions exist, like this version from Alice Kwartler (which costs a whopping $3,200), and the ghoulish Wedding Ring Coffin.

The ring is certainly a unique piece (and the rest of Gisele's designs are eerily beautiful) - but would you wear a piece of jewellery to mark the end of your relationship? Tweet us @StylistMagazine.
