Once you’re happy, the programme begins. While it definitely doesn’t hurt, it takes a little while to get used to the sensation of the pulses, and weirdly, you can feel your pelvic floor tightening on its own. It’s quite disconcerting, but I used the half hour to read a book (you aren’t allowed any electronic devices, so I couldn’t mindlessly scroll) and before I knew it, my time was up.

I was intrigued to see if I would notice any immediate effect, but Dr Lakhani warned me that it would probably take a few sessions for any improvements to kick in.

“Some patients feel results straight away after the first treatment, though others will need to carry our several treatment sessions to feel results,” she explained. “Since the treatment triggers the body’s natural production processes to create new muscle fibres and proteins, which further strengthens and tones the pelvic floor and bladder muscles, it might take a few weeks to notice the difference.”
