It’s the question that all A-level philosophy students come to eventually: if you had a way of seeing into the future, would you really want to know? We’re not quite at the stage of being able to predict when our life partners will walk into our lives or where we’ll be retiring to, but more and more of us are busy trying to extend our lifespans and predict when things are set to go haywire.

We can test for everything from potentially life-limiting genetic mutations to gut diversity – all from the comfort of our own homes. With one pinprick, we can also find out our supposed biological age, as I did a few months ago. I’m not wholly sure how accurate the latter test is, but the results did make for interesting reading (my body, apparently, is 12 years younger than my chronological age but finds intermittent fasting stressful).
