We need a strong core for just about everything in life, and one way to make sure that our middle muscles are working properly is to throw off our centre of gravity. A single-arm weighted contralateral reverse lunge (what a mouthful!) is a great way to work both the body’s stabilising and leg muscles because you’ve got to stay upright and strong while being weighed down on one side. The more you work your external obliques and hip complex muscles, the better balanced and strong you’ll feel. That’ll come in handy for all the side-plank rotations, sumo squats and jump lunges that’ll follow.
