Take time to zone out, switch off and read some utterly delightful poetry on your morning and evening commute.

In our digital-crazed world, sometimes switching off and focusing on something other than never-ending to-do lists or work projects can prove difficult.

But as we start to realise the importance of looking after our wellbeing, finding a way to wind down or be still is now vitally crucial for our mental health.

And what better way to do so than to simply read? In 2018, thanks to Instagram and feminism, the power of poetry’s soothing sounds are in the spotlight once more. Long gone are the genre’s once stuffy connotations, thanks to the rise of Insta poets.

From lost love to travel, work your way through the intimate words written by young, fresh poets like Yrsa Daley-Ward, Rupi Kaur and Marisa Crane, as you head to and from the daily grind.

Because at the start or the end of the day, a well-written poem can prepare us for anything that may come our way.

Peruse our list below for poems that’ll calm your mind and uplift your mood as you make your way through the hustle and the bustle.
