When Naga Munchetty first spoke out about her experience living with adenomyosis, she never expected it to have such an impact. “I had this massive flare-up, and my partner had to call an ambulance. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t think; I was just screaming,” she tells Stylist. “The next day, I did a piece on it on BBC Radio 5 Live, and the response to that made me realise just how unspoken about it was, how so few people knew about it and how many women were having their pain dismissed.”

Now two years later, the BBC presenter has made it her mission to change things with her new book, It’s Probably Nothing. Packed full of information on navigating the healthcare system with reproductive health conditions, helpful condition-specific guides and stories from women who have experienced these conditions first-hand, the book is a valuable resource for anyone struggling to access the help they deserve.

It’s a fight Munchetty knows all too well, having only been diagnosed with adenomyosis at 47, despite struggling with painful, heavy periods (often accompanied by fainting and vomiting) since the age of 15. It took a phase of non-stop bleeding, which her GP was worried could be a sign of uterine cancer, for her to be put on the waiting list for a gynaecologist, after which she decided to go private. And as soon as the sonographer began her ultrasound, the issue quickly became obvious.
