There are some people in this world who are truly hell-bent on making it a better place, and Taylor Richardson is certainly one of them.

After successfully campaigning to raise funds to be able to attend Space Camp, Richardson – an American aspiring astronaut – then used some of the money to pay for 100 girls to go see the 2016 film Hidden Figures. Why? Because she wanted young girls to see a film which shone a spotlight on the female African-American mathematicians who played a vital role at NASA during the Sixties.

Now, Richardson campaigning for funds to pay for 1,000 girls to see upcoming film A Wrinkle in Time. Her GoFundMe campaign, which began in November 2017, initially set a goal of raising $15,000 (£10,700).

However, at the time of writing, she has surpassed the target and raised $18,000 (£12,800).

A Wrinkle in Time stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, and follows the story of Meg Murry (Storm Reid) who sets off on an adventure to find her missing father on a new planet.

Directed by Ava DuVernay, with a screenplay written by Jennifer Lee, it’s an adaptation of the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle. It’s a triumph for women, especially women of colour, which is exactly why Richardson wants to give young girls the opportunity to see it.
