Abused Goddesses

India is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for women, and this powerful new "Abused Goddesses" campaign from Save The Children India's Save Our Sisters initative aims to help change this.
Each advertisement features an Indian Goddess, but rather than looking flawless, each beloved goddess features visible cuts and bruises - the telltale signs of domestic abuse. Much like the anti-domestic abuse ads created by the King Khalid Foundation in Saudi Arabia, these ads are as thought-provoking as they are ground breaking.
The advertisements are (literally) works of art as ad agency Taproot tried to recreate hand-painted scenes depicting the goddesses. The cuts and bruises were added to the model's make-up before the photographs were taken, and all props were either real or painted on.
The results are breathtaking.
