An artist has adopted a unique way to raise awareness of sexual abuse by using characters from some of the best-loved Disney movies.
Illustrator Saint Hoax has used Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine from Aladdin and Ariel from The Little Mermaid and shown then all being attacked by their respective fathers.
Each of the princesses is seen looking stunned as their fathers attack them, with a shocking statistic below stating that 46% of minors who are raped are victims of family members. It also offers a call to action, with the words "it's never too late to report your attack" emblazoned below.
The poster series, aptly titled 'The Princest Diaries', was created after the designer learned that a friend was raped by her own father when she was just seven years old.
Speaking to the Huffington Post, the artist said: "That story shocked me to my core. As an artist/activist I decided to shed light on that topic again in a new form. I used Disney princess because it's a visual language that my targeted audience would be attracted to."
She also states on her site that this is an awareness campaign "targeting minors who have been subject to sexual abuse by a family member. The aim of the poster series is to encourage victims to report their cases in order for the authorities to prevent it from happening again."
