Bake Off fans, you can now apply to be on Channel 4’s GBBO

Bake Off fans, do you fancy yourself on par with the likes of Candice Brown, Nadiya Hussain, John Whaite, and Frances Quinn?

Well, ready your rolling pins, dust off your aprons, and cover your soggy bottoms, because now’s your chance to prove it; applications are well and truly open for the next series of the baking show.

The application form is pretty intense, considering it’s only open for the next 38 days; we just checked it out ourselves (we were just looking for, ahem, a friend) and it’s a whopping six pages long.

You have to fill in all the usual niggling details, like your name, age and address, as well as a list of your baking history. And forget proof is in the pudding; the proof of the pudding is in the photograph.

That’s right; you need to upload snaps of your best ever bakes, as well as pick out your signature dish – and you’ll also be quizzed on all things biscuits, cakes, breads, and desserts-related.

If you fancy your chances, the only eligibility requirements are that you need to be over 16 and live in the United Kingdom.

However it’s worth remembering that this is a celebration of the country’s best amateur bakers. So, naturally, you’re not allowed to have any baking or catering qualifications.

And, if you’ve ever worked full-time as a baker, cook, or chef, you need to make like Dionne Warwick and walk on by, because this ain’t the reality show for you.

GBBO has made more headlines than ever this year, thanks to its unexpected move from BBC One to Channel 4.

Many fans were left bereft by the news that adverts would be forced into their favourite sixty-minutes of baking fun – not to mention the fact that Mary Berry, along with presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, will not be returning to the show when it airs on its brand-new channel.

However, with Paul Hollywood set to remain in the crisp white tents, and the likes of 2016 winner Candice Brown pipped to step in as Mary’s replacement, the show has the potential to remain every bit as popular as it once was.

Then again, it could just as easily wind up a soggy bottom.

It remains to be seen who will be taking over the presenting side of things from Mel and Sue, although Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders have well and truly ruled themselves out of the running.

Speaking to The Mirror about it, French said: “I think that rumour started because what other two girls are there working together?

“It's as simple as that. ‘Those two, them’. Absolutely not, no.”

Saunders was even more blunt when quizzes about it, as she said simply: “It’s complete bollocks.”

Fair enough then.

Fingers crossed someone signs up to keep Hollywood company; that Bake Off tent can get awful lonesome when you’re the only one sat there…
