Bake Off’s Jane and Candice debut makeovers ahead of their European road trip

Bake Off may be over, but our love for this year’s contestants will never fade away.

Earlier this week, we watched as Candice Brown was crowned the winner of this year’s series of GBBO – which, incidentally, will be the last ever to air on BBC One.

But, as the show was filmed many months in advance, all sorts of things have happened since the last showstopper was devoured by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

Things like, say, Val Stones planning a ‘baking trip’ to Ayia Napa, aka the party capital of Cyprus.

Or Selasi Gbormittah reuniting all the gang for an incredible viewing party at his luxe London flat.

However, for many fans, it was Jane Beedle’s pixie hair transformation that really too them by surprise.

In the show, the talented baker sported a blonde pixie cut – usually a little tousled due to intense anxiously-running-hands-through-hair moments while watching cakes rise slowly in the oven.

But, nowadays, she looks a little different:

That’s right; she’s updated her style for a darker wavy crop – and the hue is very similar to some of the retro photos that flashed up of her during the finale.

Candice, meanwhile, has also undergone a hair makeover; she’s dyed her brunette locks an on-trend cherry red colour.

The Bake Off star recently spoke out about a number of negative tweets she received from misogynist trolls during her time on the show, many of whom slammed her for her appearance.

She told ITV’s Loose Women that she found the best way to deal with the “hurtful” comments was to follow Michelle Obama’s advice – when they go low, you go high.

“It’s hurtful,” said Candice. “I thought ‘Oh, I’m making cakes, this is alright’ and then bam ‘Look at your face’ or bam ‘Look at this’ and I thought ‘Okay’, and it’s not in my nature to be mean, I’m not that sort of person at all.

“So I thought… if I just answer back in a way [like] ‘Well okay, I hope you have a lovely day today’ and ‘You don’t spell my surname like that, it’s spelt this way’ and actually I found that helped me, because yeah it’s hurtful, it’s not nice but actually that’s a tiny tiny amount [of people].

“The support is lovely.”

Winning the show has boosted Candice’s baking confidence no end, with her telling the show: “It means so much to me.

“I’d always kind of thought ‘I’d love to do it’ and I really wanted to do it, but to get there is like amazing and it just kept going and then that happened and it was just ‘oh I did it! I did it!’”

She also revealed that both she and Jane will be taking their new hairstyles on the road, as they’re planning a baking road trip through France together.

“I love France and you might have noticed I like my little antiques and things like that and Jane goes to France quite a lot,” she said.

“We were saying we should get in a car and just go and go to markets and then she can tell me off for buying random toot and we can bake and eat, so that’s good.”

Anyone else really hoping that BBC One might decide to film their baking hijinks across Europe and turn it into a TV series?
