A company has created a number of feminist emojis labelled 'Femojis' in hope of bringing more diversity to the modern keyboard.

Makers, a website which reports on pioneering women in America, have imagined what stronger female emojis would look like in the form of modern day feminists, including Lena Dunham, Beyonce and Gloria Steinem.

Emojis are officially the fastest growing language in the UK and in history based on the incredible adoption rate and speed of evolution.

In April, Apple updated its people emojis to include six different skin tones - one consisting of a yellow face which the company said was to be ethically neutral.

But while racial diversity is making its way into the smorgasboard of adorable and addictive icons, that's not the case when it comes to gender.

When we cast our eyes over the selection of female emojis we were limited to dancer, a bride, a princess, two geishas and two figures dressed in playboy bunny costumed. In contrast, the male emoji palette features a police officer, construction worker, jockey, walker, swimmer, cycler and rower.

For women, "activities are limited to sexy salsa dancing, getting haircuts, and wearing Playboy bunny costumes,” explains Makers. "If Apple is going to make an effort to be progressive and value diversity, their next iOS update needs to feature a larger representation of females in their emoji alphabet."
