In the wake of the artisanal toast trend sweeping San Francisco and the fact that department store John Lewis recently reported a 150% increase in sales of premium toasters, toast is clearly having a moment.

We've fired up the toaster in anticipation and scoured the web for some of the most impressive looking toast topping ideas - with sweet, savoury and new twists on old classics all making an appearance. So put down that sorry looking jar of jam and get something swankier on that cripsy wholemeal slice. 

  • Overnight Blueberry French Toast Casserole

    Because French toast is definitely proper toast, right? This stunning looking French toast casserole is topped with a delicious, oozy homemade blueberry syrup and makes for a mighty, indulgent breakfast, courtesy of Deliciously Yum.

  • Avocado and heirloom tomato toast with balsamic drizzle

  • Bacon, avocado and cream cheese
