It's always a little annoying when a guest fails to show up at your event. But one bride is seeking compensation for the no-shows on her big day by sending a couple a bill for the cost of their meals.

Jessica Baker from Minnesota received a bill for $75.90 (approximately £50) in the post after she and her husband couldn’t attend a wedding because their babysitter cancelled on them last minute.

The invoice also came with a note that read: “This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP'd for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated.”

“You've got to be kidding me,” Baker told Kare 11 News. “It listed, we would have had two herb crusted walleye and there was also a service and tax charge.”

It was Baker's mother who was arranged to babysit the couple's children and when she called to say she couldn't make it, they decided to stay home as there was a no-children policy at the ceremony.

Baker is not planning on paying the charge, however she is wondering what she could or should have done when she realised she couldn't make the nuptials.

“I guess I don't know what the right answer would have been. What the right thing to do would have been,” she said.

Since the letter was posted on Kare 11's Facebook page on Tuesday, thousands have taken to the comments section to share what they would do.

“I'd send them 75.00 in monopoly money,” wrote one user on the social network.

“I would actually make a donation in that amount to a food shelf or a non-profit in the name of the bride and groom. Then send them a card showing that you did so,” said another.

Others said the bride's letter “is in very poor taste” and one individual who works for a catering company added, “It's rare that all rsvp's show up. In fact, there's usually about a 10% no show rate. Suck it up, buttercup bride.”
