Hilarious cartoons depict the realities of pregnancy, from being a stranger magnet to missing alcohol

Ah, the good old pregnancy glow. You know the one, right? When you're being sick for the seventh time that day, or when you can't tie your own shoes because your belly's in the way, or when you're figuring out how to deal with stomach hairs for the first time ever and you feel just amazing? No? Funny that.

Line Severinsen, an illustrator from Norway, struggled through a sickly first three months when pregnant in 2012 and, bored of seeing images of glowing mums-to-be without a care in the world, decided to start a cartoon diary about her experiences to feel better.

Now a mum of two, Severinson told Buzzfeed: “I was feeling sick and tired all through my first trimester while all I saw online and in magazines were these picture perfect, happy, pregnant super-women.”

After blogging a few cartoons depicting the everyday realities of being heavily pregnant, such as swollen feet and strangers groping her belly, on her website Kos & Kaos (which translates to ‘cuddles and chaos’), it became obvious she'd struck a chord with pregnant women and new mums everywhere.

The series has been extended to cover some of the not-so-fun aspects of new parenthood too, such as co-sleeping and problems breastfeeding.

And the illustrator is pleased other new mums and expecting parents have identified with her work so much.

Severinsen told the website: “What I am getting such a huge kick from right now is seeing people commenting on my comics and tagging friends telling them to ‘Look here’ and ‘This is exactly how I feel right now’.

“It’s so rewarding to see that my drawings and experiences are resonating so well with so many people!”
