Preparing for interviews

Once you’ve secured an interview, the next step is to be as prepared as you possibly can be for the big day. You’ll want to research the company you’re interviewing with, as well as practising a few interview questions – and AI can help you with all of this.

“You can use AI to show you commonly asked interview questions, offer tips on how to answer them effectively, and it can even conduct mock interviews to help you practice and refine your response,” says Rhodes.

And companies will be expecting you to do this, too.

“Employers and hiring managers are aware that savvy candidates are up to speed with AI,” says Julie Bishop, the founder of Jobhop. “Also, I see it from the other side as well: recruiters using AI to come up with tests and interview questions, to write content to attract candidates, to write job descriptions, to answer candidates’ questions, to filter and sort candidates. It works both ways.”

But even if you choose to use AI to help you prepare, don’t be fooled into thinking your work is done.

“It’s important to be aware that AI can’t replace ‘soft skills’ (things like communication, body language and interpersonal skills),” says Rhodes. “So there’s still plenty to do even if AI does help you bag an interview. And if you’re using it to research a company, remember that it can’t give you a good understanding of a company’s culture or work environment.”
