The Obamas might currently be taking a well-deserved break on Richard Branson’s Caribbean island, but they’ve got lots of plans for their return to reality. Barack Obama is expected to start work on a new set of memoirs, and also wants to encourage young people to get involved in their communities through his foundation. Michelle, meanwhile, is expected to continue campaigning on nutrition issues.

But without their enormous White House staff behind them, they’ll need a bit of help – and so they’re on the hunt for interns.

The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama emailed former White House interns on Friday to announce a 16-week internship programme in Washington D.C., CNBC reports.

The interns’ responsibilities will include “a variety of tasks”, mostly focusing on “correspondence” (letter-writing), according to the memo.

Barack and Michelle are looking for interns “who take initiative, manage their time well, have strong attention to detail, solid writing skills, and the utmost commitment to public service”.

We’ll defer to our good friend Leslie Knope to sum up how we feel upon reading that job spec:

Unfortunately, the application for the internship closed on 8 February – so you can hold off on booking those flights to Washington D.C. for now.

However, as ELLE notes, the short-term nature of the internship scheme means that new opportunities to work for everyone’s dream bosses will likely come up later this year – so keep your eyes peeled on the Obamas’ official website.
