A string of famous retail companies tops a list of Britain’s best places to work for in 2017.
The John Lewis Partnership – which covers John Lewis and Waitrose – is officially the UK’s most desirable place to work for, followed by ASOS, Arcadia Group Ltd and Harrods.
The line-up is compiled by careers network LinkedIn, which analysed billions of actions by its 23 million UK members to figure out which companies come up trumps as far as employees are concerned.
Sainsbury’s Burberry and Selfridges also make the shortlist, alongside tech giants Google, Facebook and Amazon.
All 86,700 permanent staff at John Lewis Partnerships are partners in the business, meaning they co-own the company and have a say in how things are run.
The most obvious benefit of this is the company’s annual bonus, where profits are distributed to employees as a percentage of their salaries. Every employee also gets a staff discount at Waitrose and John Lewis, and those with 25 years’ service under their belt are entitled to six months’ paid leave.
Over at Asos, employees are offered five weeks holiday a year and a birthday day off, plus private medical insurance and a summer hours scheme which features 3pm Friday finishes.
Those working at Harrods get a 33% discount across most concession and own-bought brands, as well as 50% off business wear. The firm also offers paid birthday days off, interest-free season ticket loans and a weekly draw to win Royal Albert Hall tickets.
