Rumours of an all-female series have been circulating for some time now. And, while Willis refused to confirm them during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine earlier this year, she did admit that it would be an “amazing thing” to be involved in.

“I think it would be an amazing thing to do though,” she said. “It’s going to have been 100 years since women got the right to vote around that time and we now live in a world that is pro-feminism, finally!

“We deserve to be equal.”

Willis also dismissed speculation that an all-female house would be more hostile than a mixed-gender one, adding: “It’s very interesting when it’s just women. I think it would be great for the series to be celebratory of women rather than what people are assuming [you put a group of women together and they’ll all argue].

“But we will have to wait and see if this is all true.”

It is worth noting that the Representation of People Act, which was seen as a major success for women’s suffrage when it became law in February 1918, was not a success for all women: only those who were over 30, who were occupiers of property or married to occupiers were entitled to vote.

Those who did not meet these criteria were forced to wait another 10 years before they received the same rights.
