A relationship charity is offering vouchers for marriage counselling sessions as wedding gifts.

Relate Cambridge describes the unusual present as "A great way to ensure that a relationship stays on track."

It says the set of six sessions, costing £300, could "help keep the spark alive" and describes the package as a "thoughtful and practical."

Elaine Taylor, from the charity, told the BBC: "Relate Cambridge is recognising the importance of the preventative work it does on relationships with the new gift vouchers.

"These make thoughtful, practical and unusual gifts and give couples the best possible opportunity to stay on the right track with their relationship."

Other relationship nurturing gifts available from the charity include a prep-course that gives tips to help relationships "endure" and one-off £50 MOT guidance sessions, aimed at those in the market for an anniversary gift.

Relate says the idea came from a newlywed couple who had requested relationship counselling on their wedding list.

Taylor acknowledged the "hazardous process" of gift-buying and said that she hoped recipients of the counselling vouchers would understand they were given with "good intent."
