We think we just found our spiritual home.
On Friday, Saturday – or really any night of the week – in London, the city’s cocktail bars are full to bursting, whether you’re after a pre-theatre tipple in Covent Garden or battling your friends on Mario Kart in a gaming bar in Peckham.
Londoner’s appetites are continuously growing for the next new thing on the bar scene, but with so much choice (and not always a whole lot of space) it can be hard to know where to go to seek out your next favourite.
Enter Cocktails in the City: a collaboration of 25 of London’s coolest, most interesting bars and the people behind them, all under one roof ready to show you what they got.
From the 4 – 6 April, Bourne and Hollingsworth are putting together the event in the Waterloo Vaults. If you’ve never ventured that way before, the Vaults are an underground maze of arches and passageways, all of which will be the temporary home of a different bar and sensory experience.
You might already recognise some of the names attending, such as the London Cocktail Club, Cahoots, Trailer Happiness and Mr Fogg’s – all of which have designed an all-singing, all-dancing, all-drinking pop-up bar for the event.
As you work your way around the converted railway tunnels, watch out for the Secret Garden by B&H Buildings and Mr Fogg’s, overflowing with botanicals and complete with sensory Greenhouse from which you can pick your own cocktail garnishes from hanging baskets.
There’s also a cocktail laboratory, where inside famed industry mavericks will be showing off their near-magic skills creating some exciting concoctions, and an underground bunker courtesy of speakeasy Cahoots, who are bringing an old-fashioned tube carriage along with them to transport you back in time.
Tickets are priced at £20 which gets you one cocktail, with all others priced at £7.50 throughout the evening.
Cocktails in the City will also be touring the rest of the country throughout spring and summer, visiting Edinburgh and Manchester in May and Liverpool in June.
