We can all empathise with that horrible sinking feeling when you realise Christmas is over for good.

So spare a thought for this woeful lion, who can't bear the sight of a discarded Christmas tree lying sprawled on the grass, its festive duties done.

Zuri the African cat has become unusually attached to a seasonal pine tree donated to Linton Zoo in Cambridgeshire over the past month, to the point where he can't be parted from it.

The young male lion loves nothing better than to nuzzle the spruce for an hour or two.

The zoo now makes regular appeals for unwanted Christmas trees in order to entertain its residents.

"Having been the centre of fun for several weeks in people's homes (they) provide hours of fun for our animals," says zoo owner Kim Simmons.
