In a world where it seems women's bodies are constantly scrutinised, mums around the globe are sharing pictures of their stretchmarks and stomachs in celebration of their post pregnancy bodies.

Using the hashtag #mumbods in the UK and #mombods elsewhere on Instragram, women are embracing the way their body has changed after giving birth. One user wrote, "My stomach created the most beautiful girl in the world" and another shared: "Carrying a child is beautiful. Stretch marks are beautiful. Never let anyone tell you different."

It comes after the recent #dadbods movement which saw men on the social network praising their undefined muscles and beer bellies, typically seen on fathers. It began with an article by American university student Mackenzie Pearson titled 'Why Girls Love The Dad Bod', which went viral:

"The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, "I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time...there is just something about the dad bod that makes boys seem more human, natural, and attractive," he wrote.

Some women argued that it highlighted the inequalities society places on appearances, where women's post-pregnancy bodies aren't valued in the same way.

"This week, I heard this new trend called #dadbod and it made a lot of moms (including me) really f****** angry," wrote one Instagram user. "Since the birth of my gorgeous baby, I've been told stretch marks, extra fat and loose skin were something to be ashamed of but now suddenly it was considered "cool" for men to have it even though they didn't have the job of carrying a baby in their belly for 9 months...I'm so done being ashamed of my kickass body that produced a miracle."
