We may have had the time of our lives when Dirty Dancing first came out – but we’re about to have it all over again, with a brand-new cast, in a brand-new movie.
ABC are set to give the 1987 romantic drama (which saw Jennifer Grey carry a watermelon and Patrick Swayze captivate us with his pelvic sorcery) a huge makeover when they air the reboot in May.
Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes will be taking on the roles of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and Johnny Castle respectively.
And the former has been busily sharing photos from the set on her Instagram, in a bid to get people in the mood for the made-for-TV movie.
“Casually dancing around a fireplace, as one does,” she captioned the first.
Then, sharing one of herself in an impassioned embrace with her shirtless co-star, she added: “And just casually dipping around a fireplace. As one does.”
While we will have to wait for the movie to see how the pair handle that iconic lift, Breslin also shared a snap of herself and Prattes stepping into that big finale.

And, yes, she’s dressed in that iconic baby pink dress.

Breslin and Prattes will be joined by a star-studded cast for the Lionsgate-produced reboot, including Will & Grace’s Debra Messing as Baby’s mother, Marjorie; Star Trek’s Bruce Greenwood as Baby’s dad, Jake; and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland as Baby’s older sister, Lisa.

Hyland and Messing, as followers will no doubt be aware, have been excitedly sharing snaps of the production on their own social media accounts.
Messing posted a montage of pictures, including a shot of the Houseman family sitting around a table while Johnny tells them: “No one puts Baby in the corner.”
Hyland, meanwhile, shared one of herself in costume, writing: “First look at Lisa Houseman.
“Many more pictures to come to celebrate #dirtydancing! Airing on ABC May 24th.”
Former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger will take on the role of Penny, who, as long-time fans of the film will know, is Johnny’s dance partner.
She undergoes a botched abortion while working at the New York resort.
The Dirty Dancing remake is expected to closely follow the plot of the original movie, which tells the story of a young woman who travels with her upper-class family to a resort in New York’s Catskills Mountains in 1963.
Whilst there, she catches the eye of a hunky dance instructor – culminating in a steamy romance, not to mention one of the best movie dance sequences of all time ever.
Here’s a reminder:
However, while the reboot will remain faithful to the original (Eleanor Bergstein, who penned the screenplay for the first movie, is on the writing team for the new one), it has also promised to take the story beyond where the original ended.
Speaking to ABC about the remake, Messing said: “You learn a lot more about Baby's mum and Baby's dad, and those dynamics.
“And you also find out what happens to Baby and Johnny after the original movie ends.”
Hmm – how intriguing. We wonder if the duo called time on their summer romance, or if they entered dance competitions all over the world together?
Well, there isn’t long to go until all of our questions are finally answered: the three-hour TV movie will be broadcast on US network ABC on 24 May.
