Bert Royal, the mastermind behind the iconic comedy, is tipped to write and direct this next instalment.
When Emma Stone first graced our screens as the instantly loveable Olive Penderghast in 2010’s Easy A, we knew we were in for a treat.
Fast forward to 2019, and we’re still in love with Bert Royal’s coming-of-age comedy, which follows Penderghast as she takes advantage of her school’s rampant rumour mill to build a new identity for herself and increase her social standing. From the cast-list, which boasts names such as Lisa Kudrow as Mrs. Griffith and Stanley Tucci as Dill Penderghast, to the film’s all-American feel, it’s no surprise this hit has made approximately $75 million worldwide.
And now, we’re officially being treated to a spinoff.
Bert Royal, who wrote the script for the iconic comedy, is penning a new screenplay as a spinoff to the original film. The new story will reportedly be set in the same high school and explore similar themes to the original - but with a brand new set of students.
Bert Royal is also set to make his directorial debut with this second instalment, alongside Easy A’s original executive producer Zanne Devine.
Since she made her much-loved appearance in Easy A, Emma Stone has appeared in films such as La La Land, Birdman and The Help. Most recently, she starred in Oscar-nominated film The Favourite.
There’s no official news on when we can expect the film yet - so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any details as they come, but for now, it isn’t looking like Emma Stone will be making a return.
Now all we can do is wait… (and watch Easy A on repeat).
