It’s fair to say Ed Sheeran is a busy man.

In the past few weeks alone, the 24-year old Thinking Out Loud hit maker has passed his driving test, won the American Music Award for Favourite Male Artist and overtaken Adele’s album 21 to become the longest-charting UK top 10 album ever released by a British artist with his smash hit album, X.

So, what’s next on Sheeran’s to-do list?

A role in a Hollywood blockbuster, of course.

The singer has bagged himself a cameo in the new Bridget Jones Film, Bridget Jones’s Baby.

And, if this selfie with Renée Zellweger is anything to go by, he's pretty happy with his new role.

To celebrate his coveted film spot, the British singer posted a black and white picture of himself with the film’s leading actress in the background, to his 5.3 million Instagram followers.

He captioned the selfie: "Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie. Loved it, you're gonna love it too."

It is thought that Ed was offered a speaking part in the long-awaited film earlier this year, having made friends with the film’s casting crew and given them access to one of his gigs at Croke Park in Dublin.

Sheeran might not be the only unexpected name to bag a cameo alongside the likes of Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey in the latest Bridget Jones flick.

A few weeks ago, rumour had it that former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has also nabbed a role in the film when he was spotted smoking with the cast and crew on set.

While creator Helen Fielding’s third Bridget Jones book Mad About The Boy saw the protagonist widowed following Mark Darcy’s death, the new film will offer an alternative version of events.

It’s thought the script – written by Fielding and One Day author David Nicholls (with reported involvement from Emma Thompson) – is based on newspaper columns written by Fielding rather than the novel which took a tragic twist.

Though not much has been revealed about the storyline, it has been confirmed that the film will begin after Bridget's 40th birthday, and that our much-loved protagonist is keen to start a family with her beau, Mark Darcy.

Bridget Jones's Baby is set to his cinemas in September 2016.
