Famous historical pictures recreated in colour

Published

You may know these famous images in black and white, but this gallery on Imgur reimagines them in full technicolour and the results are amazing.

Each image from history - from Marilyn Monroe to Abraham Lincoln - has been infused with brilliant colour in the most realistic way, bringing the pictures to life.

Two of our favourite images include a shot of Elizabeth Taylor on the set of 1956 film Giant that captures the electric colour of her eyes, and a portrait of Abraham Lincoln that highlights his distinguished wrinkles.

The gallery of 55 images also features icons such as Albert Einstein relaxing in a pair of shorts in the summer of 1939 and Charlie Chaplin at the age of 27.

It also brings to life historical moments from the Capitol in Nashville during the American Civil War and the Hindenburg Disaster in 1937.

When we see old photos in black and white, we sometimes forget that those moments were experienced in the same vibrant colours that surround us today. This is a lovely reminder...
