The rainbow bagel has a new gothic rival

Earlier this year, the rainbow bagel became our latest food obsession. The brightly-coloured toruses delighted food fans with their sweet flavour and psychedelic shades. But now there's a new dark and delightful rival for its attention: the goth bagel. And if you're more of a savoury than sweet food fan, then it's going to be your new favourite thing.

The goth bagel has catapulted to Instagram stardom thanks to the The Bagel Store, the very same New York bakery who first made the rainbow bagel, and Black Tap - the burger joint who previously brought us the Freak Shake.

The two eateries collaborated on a limited-edition burger which trended on Instagram this weekend, though unfortunately it was available only at the Black Tap in NY. The truffle-flavoured gothic bun gets its dark hue with swirled black sesame seeds, black sea salt, truffle essence, and pepper. The special was filled with a beef patty topped with bacon, egg, cheese, and truffle mayo.

Our mouths are watering just thinking about it.

The bagel burger was only available for a limited time at The Black Tap, but we have no doubt this will spark a new truffle flavoured bread trend. Hopefully it will make its way to our shores soon.

In the mean time, if you want to get your teeth into a bagel with an equally gothic look, then get down to Little Ghost Bagel, which moves between various East London locations, serves up squid ink bagels topped with sesame seeds. Sink your teeth into your choice of tofu, brisket, pork belly fillings.
