The beginning of Up is what everyone remembers. The balloons and all that, sure, but the life of Carl and Ellie is what sticks, taking the viewer through the milestones of their relationship in an emotional sequence specifically designed to reduce the audience to sobbing wrecks.
Now musician Jason Lyle Black has decided to harness that tear duct manipulation on his Youtube channel with a clip starring his real-life grandparents to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Dressed as Carl and Ellie, the 80-year-old couple pay homage to the 2009 Pixar film in a video, which you can watch below, that sees the keen pianists play the theme music together while the camera pans over pictures of their life over the years.
Black reveals in the caption that the pair have played piano duets since they were first married, adding: “It was so fun to work with them on it. I’ve loved their piano duets ever since I was a little kid, so this will be a family treasure for all of us.”
Various other nods to the film pop up, including the ‘Adventure Book’ Carl gives Ellie.
At the time of writing, the video was sailing past 60,000 views.
