While some may question whether the world needs another adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, the success of last year’s version by the BBC, starring Douglas Booth and Gillian Anderson, suggests that there’s still an appetite for re-imaginings of Dickens’ classic.
Which is just as well really, because the trailer for a new big-screen adaptation of Great Expectations has just been released.
Shot by Harry Potter director Mike Newell, Great Expectations 2012 (expected in cinemas in November) stars newcomers Jeremy Irvine as Pip and Holliday Grainger as Estrella, alongside acting greats Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham and Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch.
Like Harry Potter, expect a Brit-heavy cast (look out for David Walliams, Robbie Coltrane and even ex-Eastender Tasmin Outhwaite), and a notably stark setting. Check out the trailer below (featuring German subtitles - we like to keep things international!), and tell us what you think...
