Home Alone is a classic Christmas film – we can’t think of a better way to get into the festive spirit than snuggling down and watching Kevin McAllister outsmart some wily thieves for the 1000th time.

And because of this ubiquity, you probably think you know it pretty well. But a recent thread on Twitter from journalist Claire Reilly shone a light on a background detail that you might have missed – and it’s all down to the colour coordination.

As a film set at Christmas, it’s not surprising that the house is full of festive decor – Christmas tree, garlands, fairy lights and all. But look closer and you’ll see the festive theme carries on elsewhere, with the entire house decked out in red and green.
