If you’ve been stuck at your desk for nearly an hour it’s probably about time for a screen break – a new study has found that working for 52 minutes then taking a 17 minute break makes you most productive.

The study by the productivity app DeskTime found that the highest performers structured their time this way. And now Huffington Post have helpfully created an infographic which breaks down a productive day, hour by hour.

So what’s the secret? Well, together with regular breaks the plan recommends exercising before work, eating a healthy breakfast with plenty of protein, meditating and mini yoga sessions - and wait for it.. looking at cute cat videos. Even helpful habits like going outside can help you work better.

And while we can't all enjoy afternoon naps and yoga session, and many of us have commutes to deal with, there's no doubt that introducing some of these disciplines into your day can only have a positive impact.

The perfect work day goes a little something like this according to the plan.

6.30AM Wake Up! But don’t check your emails

7AM Eat a breakfast high in healthy fats and protein

7.30AM Exercise before work

9AM-12PM Snack on high protein, go outside, socialise with a colleague

6PM Wrap up work at reasonable hour, socialise

7PM Eat at least 3 hours before bed

10PM Ban the smart phones and appliances and have a bedtime routine you stick to every day
