'You're turning into your mother'; if your wine bottle could speak, what would it say to you?

Published

In real life, wine labels are all about sophisticated quaffing - they speak of grape quality, vintage and apricot or citrus notes.

Whether a fine bottle of Malbec or the crispest Riesling, what these bottles conspicuously don't mention is the effect drinking them may have; especially if you end up necking the whole lot.

Yes they may come with an alcohol awareness warning; but they smoothly bypass the potential for sobbing down the phone to your ex, dodgy dance moves, even dodgier drink 'cocktails' and a multitude of other messy situations that drinking too much wine might bring about.

Kudos to then to US-based visionaries Adam Teeter and his friend Jeff, who used Illustrator to show the true impact of drinking, via a series of their own brilliantly honest labels published this week.

"We all say some crazy things while cracking open a bottle of wine," they said, on their website. "Maybe we’ve had a long day, or we’ve had some bumps in a relationship, or maybe we’re just trying to let loose.

"But what if wine could talk back? What if the bottle you see on the shelf already knew what was going to happen before you put it in your shopping cart? What if that wine truly didn’t care about your feelings and had a filter as great as your grandmother after a glass or two of Pinot Grigio?

"The ideas were all based on situations we found ourselves in while drinking wine."

Take a look at a few of our favourite designs from the series (the ones that really ring true), below.
