Either your Instagram account is a curated collection of enviable holidays, brunches and perfectly placed messy buns. Or it isn't. And if you're in the latter group, this Instagram feed will make your day.

Named 'Socality Barbie', the feed pokes fun at those who post staged glamorous travel, fashion and food photos under the hashtags #liveauthentic and #socality on the social media app.

The woman behind the account - who wishes to remain anonymous to preserve Socality Barbie’s authenticity - is a wedding photographer from Portland. She created the Instagram about three months ago after growing tired of how “ridiculous social media has become”.

“I get it, it’s pretty to look at,” she tells Wired, “But it’s so dishonest. Nobody actually lives like this.”

“And it’s so overdone that it’s becoming boring. People were all taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same captions,” she continues. “I couldn’t tell any of their pictures apart so I thought, ‘What better way to make my point than with a mass-produced doll?'”

Dubbed 'hipster barbie', the doll wears big glasses, kills time in coffee shops with her friends, drinks tea on hikes and looks incredibly fashionable all the while making it look effortless.

She's so far accumulated more than 569,000 followers and counting.  “I think it’s because she’s so relatable,” the photographer says. “Either your Instagram looks just like hers or you know at least one person whose Instagram does.”

The author's pet peeve - when people resort to extreme measures to get the perfect Instagram picture - is also one of her biggest inspirations behind the Instagram account.

“I’ve sat in coffee shops and watched people set their coffee on the floor while they stand on a chair just to make their morning cup of coffee appear more interesting than it really is,” she tells Buzzfeed.

Some of her most liked images include a snap of Barbie walking down a beach at 10am alongside the caption “was so worth it to get that perfect light & fog,” and having coffee with another fellow Barbie doll, next to the words: “Can I just say how amazing this girl is?! She keeps me grounded and inspires me to live my best authentic life. So glad we are in community together.”

The photographer says the response to the account has been phenomenal. “I had no idea this many people would find the account funny. I’m glad so many people can laugh about it.”
