The website reports that Book Club, from producer-turned-director Bill Holderman, will be a comedy set in and around California, featuring four friends in their 60s who read the book in their book club “and have their lives changed forever”.

It continues: “For these successful and intelligent women, this is not the type of book that they typically read, but as they soon find out, inspiration can come in the most unlikely of places.”

The film is said to be in pre-production so it’s not going to be landing in cinemas anytime soon, and Keaton, Fonda and Bergen – 71, 79 and 70 respectively – will be joined by an as-yet-uncast fourth star.

The ways in which the characters’ lives are changed remain to be seen, but we’re hoping for a My Dad Wrote a Porno-esque tale of how questionable literary ability and a frankly terrifying grasp of anatomy should not stand in the way of an aspiring erotic-fiction writer...
