Here’s everything we know about Jennifer Lawrence’s new film role in Mob Girl.
We last saw Jennifer Lawrence starring alongside Sophie Turner in Dark Phoenix earlier this year. Since then, we’ve had a Lawrence-shaped hole in our entertainment needs (to be fair, she has been busy celebrating her engagement in style).
So, today’s news (25 July) has made us very excited.
Lawrence is set to produce and star in her latest film, Mob Girl, which is an adaptation of the true-crime novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Teresa Carpenter.
Variety has reported that Lawrence will play a “mob girl turned police informant” in the film directed by Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, The Young Pope).
Lawrence will produce with Justine Polsky under their production company Excellent Cadaver. My Brilliant Friend producer Lorenzo Mieli and The Americans writer Angelina Burnett are also on board with the production.
So, what’s Mob Girl about?
Arlyne Brickman (Lawrence) is a Jewish woman growing up on the Lower East Side of New York City. She eventually becomes involved in the glamorous and flashy lifestyle of New York mobsters.
She soon begins to run errands for the “wiseguys” she dates, and ends up getting in on the action.
But, after being raped and beaten, Arlyne’s mafia connections leaver her to fend for herself. She becomes a police information and a witness in the government’s case against the Colombo vrime family.
It sounds absolutely gripping, and we can’t wait to see what Lawrence does with this tough role.
“Seeing this story from a woman’s point of view is a fresh and exciting approach to telling a classic mob story,” Weston told Variety.
“We could not imagine a more perfect team of stellar filmmakers, with Jennifer starring in a tour de force role and Paolo at the helm, to bring Arlyne’s strength and unique perspective to life on screen.”
Further details about the film are yet to be released, but we’ll be the first to update when they are.
