Monday night’s (6 May) Met Gala 2019 did not disappoint, and things only got better at the Gucci after party - as Katy Perry proved.
Met Gala 2019 attendees fully honoured the Camp theme: Lady Gaga’s live four-outfit change, Zendaya’s light-up Cinderella dress and Jared Leto’s head in his hands (literally) were just for starters…
Following what is widely being referred to as ‘the best Met Gala red carpet EVER’, guests then made their way to the Gucci after party – where we continued to see exciting costume changes. Perhaps most notably, singer Katy Perry stole the show with her transformation.
A video on Twitter shows Perry really going for it on the dancefloor while wearing a lettuce dress. This is because she arrived at the after party dressed as a hamburger, complete with pickles, sauce and a cocktail stick. Earlier in the evening, she arrived at the gala dressed as a chandelier. She really is never one to disappoint when it comes to fancy dress.
As one fan wrote on Twitter: “Drunk Katy Perry wearing a literal lettuce dress in a Met Gala after party is the best thing you’ll see today.”
A second shows the iconic Celine Dion excitedly hugging Perry, which prompted another excited fan to write: “I didn’t know I needed a video of Celine Dion humping Katy Perry in a burger costume until now.”
And in a third video on Twitter, Perry hilariously tries to put on her burger costume after using the toilet, with Jennifer Lopez casually walking around in the background.
Of course, Perry wasn’t the only attendee to let her hair down at the party. Here are some more of our favourite moments.
J-Lo - who decided not to change because her ice queen outfit, complete with icy wig, was just too good - proved herself to be a Cher fan (aren’t we all?) in a video shared by her fiance Alex Rodriguez.
Styles became very enthusiastic when he joined Mark Ronson in the DJ Booth. He is clearly a big fan of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep.
And Lizzo refused to let the Met Gala magic stop, as she later rocked up to the airport wearing the same red and white Marc Jacobs coat that she wore to the event. She captioned her own video of the moment: “BYE BITCH YOU THINK I’M TAKIN OFF THIS @MARCJACOBS COAT?”
