London 2012: one year to go

Published

Stylist today (27 July) helped celebrate the One Year To Go event marking the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Fans from across Europe converged for the landmark ceremony at London's St. Pancras International station, with "Olympic pioneers" from Holland, Belgium and France arriving on two Eurostar trains for the occasion.

Stylist had a front seat as athletes including Colin Jackson, CBE, the British former sprint and hurdling athlete, and retired French handball player Jackson Richardson, gathered on the platform under the iconic Olympics logo.

They were joined by Seb Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee and Hugh Robertson, the Minister for Sport, who paid tribute to "real excitement in the air" as a swing band struck up and the trains' passengers arrived to join in celebrations.

They were hailed as the very first of international spectators for London 2011, a monumentous event that the city has spent nearly seven years preparing for.

To seal the deal on the opening, Stylist stood by as various members of the party took off their socks and had their footprints cast in clay to mark the first steps on the way to next year's Olympics (above, photo four).

All in all, a rather special event and one which had us giddy with anticipation for next year's sporting action.
