See the incredible moment Londoners united to save woman trapped under a taxi

Published

The indifference of Londoners might be notorious, but when a woman was hit by a taxi and left trapped under one of its wheels this week, strangers united to save her life.

The unnamed woman in her 40s was popping out for lunch on Monday, leaving her office near Bank station with a friend.

While crossing the road on King William Street, she was hit by a white version of a classic black cab and dragged under the wheel.

Paramedics were quick to the scene, and as they decided what to do, they were helped by the quick thinking of onlooker Laura Fares.

30 Londoners lift taxi off woman trapped under wheel

Around 30 passersby came to the rescue

The 37-year-old, who is creative director at a London music label, saw the horrific scene unfolding and let her instincts take over.

Talking to the Evening Standard, Laura says: “I saw this woman under the cab and I couldn’t quite believe it. At that point, nobody was doing anything. Something inside me kicked in and suddenly I just started shouting at people to help. I started screaming ‘help or she’s going to die.’

“All these bankers and city workers then just started dropping their briefcases and running over. We all started lifting the cab and I could see her legs underneath. Her face was turning blue and she was just blinking. A builder who was helping started joking with her to keep her spirits up.”

Around 30 people came to the rescue, helping to lift the taxi off the woman’s leg and pelvis, and push it a few feet away from where she was lying.

Paramedics were than able to rush her to hospital, where staff have confirmed that she was treated for soft tissue injuries and discharged the next day.

Laura has since earned plenty of praise on social media for her actions, with many hoping that she'll inspire more people to follow her lead if ever faced with an emergency themselves.
