Love Art London is a new membership club that provides a backstage pass to the art world.
Former expert in British Paintings at Sotheby's, Chris Pensa, founded the club in February last year and says that the reason why he launched Love Art London was because; "I wanted to capture the imaginations of a young, alternative crowd and get them talking about and looking at art in a different way. Mostly I enjoy creating exciting and unusual stuff for our members to enjoy after a hard days grind in the office.”
The programme of events is diverse so that it appeals to a wide audience, you don’t have to be the typical arty type to join because you’ll be sure to find something that will interest you. For example, previous events have included afternoon tea with sculptor Sir Anthony Caro at his studio, a candlelit treasure hunt at Apsley House (Number One, London), a behind the scenes tour of the Government Art Collection and a secret flash mob.
If you love art but you hate battling your way through the Tate on a Saturday afternoon with the world and his wife, then this club will appeal. Everything they do is private, after hours and up close and personal, and they also encourage informal discussions and interaction amongst the group, so it’s a great way to meet people. Most events will have a maximum of 25 places so that the experience is really exclusive, intimate and unique.
Up and coming events to tempt you include Taxidermy – Live with artist Amanda Sutton, Behind the Scenes at John Jones' Museum Framing Studio, Tattooing: Body Art with Alex Binnie from Into You Tattoo, The Art of Printmaking with Norman Ackroyd RA: In the Studio and Story Time at Quaritch: Antique Books.
