The Marvelous Mrs Maisel: Rachel Brosnahan returns as Midge.

Get ready to spend more time with everyone’s favourite foul-mouthed comedian and her Upper East Side family.

Fans of fast-talking broads and Fifties-era costuming, rejoice!

A third season of the lush, sumptuous comedy The Marvelous Mrs Maisel has been confirmed and will air on Amazon Prime sometime this year. Midge (Emmy Award-winning Rachel Brosnahan) and her parents Abe (Tony Shalhoub) and Rose (Marin Hinkle) will be back, and so will Midge’s agent Susie (Alex Borstein) and estranged husband Joel (Michael Zegen).

Filming is happening right now in New York, with a location change to Miami in the summer, where Midge will be taking her filthy stand-up comedy routine on tour.

But what else do we know about the third season of the award-winning show? And what can we expect?

Sterling K Brown joins the cast of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Just when you thought you couldn’t be more excited about a new season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, producers announce that Sterling K Brown will join the cast. The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor and star of This Is Us is joining the third season in a starring role.

“I’m Eastward bound,” Brown said in a video on his Twitter account. “I’m going to do a little TV show, maybe you’ve heard of it: The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. The Palladinos were kind enough to write a little something for your boy, and I said yes. So, stay tuned tuned. I’m getting together with Midge and it’s going to be awesome.”

Way back at the 2019 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, Brosnahan herself lobbied for Brown to join the cast. “I would do anything,” she told Entertainment Tonight, interrupting their interview with Brown. “I would go crazy.” The pair shook hands. “I’m in,” Brown responded.

“[She] doesn’t have to campaign too hard,” the show’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino – the woman behind Gilmore Girls and Bunheads said in March. “We all want Sterling K Brown on the show… [He] happens to be a very busy man. We love him. We are trying to find stuff that works with his schedule.”

Details of his character’s exact storyline are still unclear, but one thing we know for sure is that Brown is going to look absolutely fantastic in that Fifties-era costuming.

What is season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel about?

The second season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel saw the Maisels head first to Paris and then on tour, supporting Midge while she performed stand-up comedy. There was also a delicious subplot involving a gorgeous new love interest for Midge in the form of Dr Benjamin Ettenbeg (Zachary Levi).

In the third season, Shalhoub revealed that the Midge will again be on tour, this time in Miami. “That’s all I know,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s about [Midge’s] tour, but that’s all I got.” The cast are filming right now in New York and are rumoured to be moving production to Miami in summer.

One of the series’ subplots will involve Midge’s brother and sister in law adding another baby to their brood. “That means we’re going to become grandparents again,” Shalhoub said. “That will be an interesting thing because of [Astrid’s]… wackiness.”

What has Rachel Brosnahan said about The Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 3?

Rachel Brosnahan is perfection at The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The show’s star is excited to see her titular character evolve in the new season. “I want to see her make a firm commitment to pursuing this path,” she told Town & Country. “We’ve watched her try her hand at something new and rise to the top of it very quickly… So in season three I would like to see her be willing to fall without a safety net.”

Brosnahan continued: “She’s always had this support system, she’s got her family and her friends, some kind of back-up finances. The stakes are not quite as high for her as they are for Susie. I’d like to see her willing to take the leap and let them be higher for her too.”

How much are the cast paid per episode on The Marvelous Mrs Maisel?

Everyone involved in the Amazon Prime show have negotiated nice new deals for the third season.

Brosnahan is more than tripling her original salary, taking home $300,000 per episode this year. It’s a fair pay rise for the show’s star, who has gone on to win multiple awards courtesy of her performance as the series’ main character. Shalhoub also received a pay rise and will earn $250,000 an episode for the new season. Borstein is rumoured to be making about as much as her co-stars as well.

Will there be more seasons of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel after season 3?

Almost certainly. Creators Amy and Dan Sherman-Palladino told The Hollywood Reporter that they have planned out five seasons of the show in total and have long-term ambitions for the series.

“We know what our trajectory is for the first four to five seasons,” Amy said. “And then I just want to see if I’m still breathing at that point. If I am, then we’ll continue.”

The frequent collaborators and married couple are committed to making more The Marvelous Mrs Maisel with Amazon Prime, but haven’t ruled out creating new episodes of their beloved series Gilmore Girls for Netflix.

“We’ve got the Gilmore clause, we’ve carved it out,” Amy said. It means that if and when they have the feeling that there is more story to be told there, Amazon has agreed to allow the couple to work with Netflix on more episodes.

When will The Marvelous Mrs Maisel be released on Amazon Prime?

No release date has been announced, but season two premiered in late November 2018, if you want to use that as a guide. We’ll keep you updated when we know more.
