Aiming to stir “visceral and psychological impulses” and evoke “an intrinsic yearning for gratification,” the work of precision realist artist Mary Ellen Johnson certainly hits its target.
From a plate of steamed mussels, to squishy chocolate eclairs and sticky buns dripping with syrup, Mary Ellen’s paintings are jump-off-the-canvas delicious depictions of comfort food dishes. The paintings are so realistic and enticing, before you know it, you start to salivate - well, they certainly had us begging for an early lunch anyway.
