The singer and popstar will star in a new film about the murder of fashion boss Maurizio Gucci as his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, who was found guilty of ordering his murder in a mafia-style hit.
The true crime thriller, which is being directed by British filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott, will be based on the Sara Gay Forden book The House Of Gucci: A Sensational Story Of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed. The movie will take a closer look at the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the international fashion brand’s founder, Guccio Gucci.
Patrizia Reggiani was found guilty of ordering her ex-husband’s death in 1995, after the pair were separated in 1985 when Gucci left his wife for another woman. The pair, who had two children together and were one of Italy’s famous power couples for a time, were divorced in 1994 – just one year before Gucci’s murder.
Reggiani was convicted of hiring a hitman to murder her ex-husband outside his Milan office in 1995, and sentenced to 26 years in prison. In 2016 she was released from prison after 18 years for good behaviour.
The trial, which attracted large-scale media attention both in Italy and across the world, saw Reggiani painted as a “black widow” figure who was “hot blooded” and jealous of her ex-husband.
Reggiani has always denied the charge; in 2004, her daughters asked to have their mother’s conviction overturned by claiming that a brain tumour removal three years prior to Gucci’s murder had caused their mother to lose her power of judgement.
We don’t have any more information about when we can expect this film to hit screens just yet, but it’s safe to say we’re just a little bit excited to see this project come to life.
