This weekend the annual Easter egg roll took place at The White House – the first hosted by the Trump family. And it didn’t go unnoticed that First Lady Melania was the one keeping the day’s events in check.

When the song’s fanfare kicked in prior to the egg roll, the FLOTUS and POTUS were spotted standing on a White House balcony facing the South Lawn where their guests were gathered.

As the military band began to recite the patriotic lyrics, both Melania and her son Barron’s right hands sprung respectfully to their chests – just as every American has been taught to do from a young age.

Donald’s, however, was left swinging at his side – until his wife gave him a nudge with her free hand. Subtle, but not subtle enough to go unnoticed – even with a giant bunny on Trump’s other side.

The internet was quick to respond:

Melinda Bates, the director of the White House Visitors Office under President Bill Clinton, told CNN that the egg roll is the “the single most high-profile event that takes place at the White House each year, and the White House and the first lady are judged on how well they put it on.”

This year’s egg roll was announced with much shorter notice than previous versions years, and attended by a much smaller number of guests.

Last year’s egg roll, hosted by Barack and Michelle Obama was attended by 35,000 people, including Beyonce and Jay-Z.

However, speaking to CNNMelania’s communications director,  Stephanie Grisham, confirmed that the First Lady had a reason for keeping things intimate: she wanted the focus to be on “military bands, and...the family itself.”

“We're really focused on quality of the experience over quantity of attendees,” she added.
