This year’s egg roll was announced with much shorter notice than previous versions years, and attended by a much smaller number of guests.

Last year’s egg roll, hosted by Barack and Michelle Obama was attended by 35,000 people, including Beyonce and Jay-Z.

However, speaking to CNN, Melania’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed that the First Lady had a reason for keeping things intimate: she wanted the focus to be on “military bands, and...the family itself.”

“We're really focused on quality of the experience over quantity of attendees,” she added.
