Another nostalgic classic is getting a musical makeover.

As every Mrs. Doubtfire fan knows, we’ve been put through the wringer when it comes to rumours about a follow-up film to the iconic movie. We’ve heard that writers have crafted several scripts for a part two. And we’ve (sadly) heard that said scripts have subsequently been scrapped.

But now, the news we’ve all been waiting for has been confirmed: a musical is finally in the works.

That’s right, Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire is taking to the stage (with a hoover in tow).

Directed by Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly!) and written by John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick (Something Rotten!), it’s sure to be a massive Broadway hit. And we’re already imaging scenes of a run-by fruiting and a great impression of hot dog.

Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire played by Robin Williams

The original film, which starred the late Robin Williams, followed the story of Daniel Hillard (Williams) as he disguised himself as a Scottish nanny in order to be closer to his children after losing custody during his divorce.

Talk of a musical first started back in 2015 when Alan Menken told EW Radio: “It’s going very well, it’s in its early stages, and that’s probably all I can say. We’re really enjoying working on it.”

Now, we can add it to the mega list of movies that have been made into musicals like Pretty Woman and Hercules

Mrs. Doubtfire is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving,” Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions wrote in a statement. “Getting this team together and crafting Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”

And, of course, people on Twitter are already excited about it.

“I’m already having hot flashes: #MrsDoubtfire musical is officially in the works and aiming for Broadway,” one user wrote.

And another user has already started to imagine the songs:

“Miranda: I’m looking for a nanny, could you be one?

“Daniel: I don’t work with de males cuz I used to beee one.”

We’ll update you with more details in the near future. But, in the meantime, let’s all watch Mrs. Doubtfire for the billionth time…
