Everyone’s favourite filthy podcast is coming to the small screen.

Few podcasts are as sensational as My Dad Wrote a Porno. University friends Jamie Morton, James Cooper and Alice Levine first began reading and mocking Belinda Blinked – the self-published erotica series written by Morton’s dad, aka “Rocky Flintstone” – in autumn 2015, and three years later, Belinda mania shows no sign of abating. Morton, Cooper and Levine have taken their live shows on tour around the world, and when the podcast’s fourth series launched on 27 August, #PornoDay began trending on Twitter.

Now, it has been announced that My Dad Wrote A Porno is to be turned into a TV show. HBO has divulged that a one-off comedy special based on the podcast will be coming to TV next year.

“In 2019, we’ll be turning HBO into a porn channel,” joked Morton, Cooper and Levine on the official My Dad Wrote a Porno Instagram account.

Throughout each series of the podcast, the My Dad Wrote a Porno hosts have pondered which actors they would cast as the characters in Belinda Blinked if the books were turned into a Hollywood movie. They also frequently ask their celebrity guests – who have included Daisy Ridley, Elijah Wood and Mara Wilson – if they would consider taking on a role in the prospective film.

The new HBO comedy special will not be a dramatic adaptation of the books, which means we won’t get to see an A-list actor take on the role of pots and pans saleswoman Belinda Blumenthal (not yet, anyway). Instead, it will be a filmed version of one of the My Dad Wrote a Porno live shows, which have previously been held at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House.

“We can finally announce our live show is becoming a comedy special, which means now everyone can see it!” wrote the podcast’s hosts on Instagram.

“This is an incredibly exciting and surreal moment for us and we wouldn’t be here without you lot and your incredible (and frankly, baffling) addiction to Rocky’s erratica.

“From the bottom of our pomegranates, thank you so much for all your support.”

Writing on his own Instagram, Cooper said he was “so so so so so excited, mainly because I get to do this with my two besties. F***ing dream come true. And Rocky, we’re all very, very proud of you.”

Former Stylist cover star Levine said that the HBO deal “has to be one of the proudest moments” for her, Cooper and Morton.

“Can’t believe the home of [TheSopranos, The Wire, Girls, The Jinx, Sex and the City, Flight of the Conchords etc etc… Is now the home of [My Dad Wrote a Porno]!” she said.

Morton said: “There are many things I’m proud of my dad for, but him writing some ropey porn in the garden shed has become one of the biggest. From horror to hilarity to HBO, I can’t believe we’ve come this far. We used to watch The Sopranos together and now we’re gonna be on that same network. Cheers, dad. You’re a total legend.

“And a massive thanks to everyone who listens to our dirty little show. We would never have got this far without you all.”
