YouTube has been forced to remove the teaser for Netflix’s The Nun following a string of complaints.
As the seasons slowly begin to shift, and summer gives way to autumn, the content on our social media feeds begins to change, too. Take a gander, if you don’t believe us: there are the excitable Facebook statuses counting down the days to Halloween and Christmas. The Twitter users musing about the shortening days (“is it just me, or is it really dark outside?”). The Pinterest boards filled with coats, boots and Hygge interiors trends.
And on YouTube? Well, YouTube becomes packed to the brim with horror movie trailers, obviously.
However, while there’s nothing we love more than a spine-tingling thriller (see our tame film reviewer’s account of Hereditary, if you don’t believe us), it seems Netflix’s latest teaser trailer has crossed an invisible line. So much so that YouTube has been forced to ban it from its website.
That’s right: The Nun (which is a prequel to The Conjuring 2) tells the story of a team who head to the Vatican to investigate a nun’s suicide. And, despite the fact that it isn’t out until September, it has already attracted a plethora of complaints thanks to its teaser advert, which has been popping up on people’s screens without warning.
Essentially, this means that people have, whilst merrily browsing the ‘Tube, suddenly seen their devices hijacked accosted by a demonic nun. And a demonic nun with bleeding fans, glowing green eyes and a blood-curdling scream, no less.
Naturally, viewers had a lot to say about the pop-up and took to social media in their hoards to complain about it. And, as a result to the uproar, YouTube have announced they have removed it from their website (which, let’s face it, is seriously good press for The Nun).
While the pop-up is gone, fans can still opt in to watch the full trailer which gives a no less terrifying sneak peek at the new scary flick.
Check it out:
According to Variety, the official synopsis reads: “When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate.
“Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2…
“The abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.”
Sounds fun. We’ll see you at the popcorn stands, yeah?
The Nun is due to be released on 7 September 2018.
